Elbe Day

The Elbe Day takes place every year in April to commemorate the historic encounter between US and Soviet troops on the destroyed Elbe Bridge in Torgau. The festive event is structured around a two or three-day programme of music, readings and film screenings.
The city of Torgau marked the 70th anniversary of the encounter in 2015 by welcoming US and Russian ambassadors, as well as veterans and other eye witnesses. Lots of memories were shared on the emotional occasion. The Elbe Day is an exuberant festival with lots on offer for fans of jazz, Dixie and blues music. But the festival should also raise awareness of how valueable a life in peace is.
The next Elbe Day will take place from April 27th to 28th 2024. Torgau looks forward to your visit!
