Real Sandstone Masterpieces of the 16th Century
Visitors can discover interesting facts about the architectural history of the castle in its Lower Parlour, the oldest part of the castle with a unique medieval structure, and in the impressive vault beneath the castle church. The “stone witnesses” of the lapidarium (Latin for a “collection of stones”) tell the history of the castle. Many of the often grotesque sandstone works have weathered over the centuries. After being removed from their original place in the castle and replaced by replicas, the objects in the lapidarium bear witness to the former splendour of the courtly residence.
