Historic Craftsman’s House

Cramped Rooms, Sloping Walls and Original Murals

This small two-storey Renaissance building is the oldest house in Torgau; it was built by the lower classes and has largely been preserved in its historical condition. It was originally located near the gate to the former bakery on the outskirts of the historic old town. Three coopers and two chimney sweeps lived here with their families, journeymen and apprentices in the 17th century. The cramped rooms, sloping walls and surprisingly original murals make a profound impression and offer insights into the living culture of past centuries.
