Torgau, April 1945

The name “Torgau” resonated throughout the international press when American and Soviet forces met along the Elbe in Torgau on 25 April 1945 before the official ceasefire. This encounter is commemorated with a memorial, which was designed by the Kiev architect Miletzky and erected in autumn 1945.
