Mayor Ringenhain House

40 Angels Watch over Tourists in the Mayor’s Living Room

The Torgau Museum Trail lets visitors take a stroll through the city and experience history up close in selected buildings of historical interest. The stately town house may have a simple façade, but it’s home to some of the highest-quality ceiling and wall art from the late 16th and early 17th century. The hall on the first floor has an impressively decorated wooden-beamed ceiling featuring 40 angels. There are also records of an old “Angel Room” at Hartenfels Castle, but it hasn’t been preserved. These unique interior decorations make the building the most important Renaissance town house in Central Germany in terms of its art and cultural history.
