Discover Torgau – Tips for families & children
A day in Torgau with the family
Fun from the old town to the city park
We start at the market square, framed by the beautiful town hall and the Renaissance houses. We enjoy an ice cream and watch the water feature of the market fountain. The oversized plush bear is already in sight. We have to go there! It stands at the entrance to the oldest toy shop in Germany (est. 1685), the toy shop Carl Löbner.
Then we get an audio guide in the Torgau Information Center. We will learn the most exciting things about Torgau – and at our own pace. Oh no! Mom immediately falls into a little shopping spree when she sees the many regional delicacies and souvenirs that are available here in the Torgau shop.
And we get great tips. A visit to the grounds of the State Garden Show, which took place in Torgau in 2022, is a must. Much has been preserved. There are great playgrounds, a skate park, a petting zoo and lots of things to do and be active. We also mint a commemorative coin and on we go.
On the tracks of the bears
Through Schlossstraße we continue towards the castle – we finally want to see the bears!! We follow the bear paws on the pavement. They lead us directly to the Torgau brown bears: Jette, Bea and Benno are waiting for us in the bear pit at Hartenfels Castle.
Just a few steps further we are in the huge castle courtyard in front of the Great Wendelstein. So this is where Sleeping Beauty lived? Well, at least part of the DEFA fairy tale film was shot here in 1970. The special exhibition “Sleeping Beauty. The Fairy Tale Castle in the Blossom Dream”. We snap our favorite family holiday picture at the Wendelstein! Then you go up the 163 steps of the Hausmannsturm: What a view over the city, the Elbe and the Elbe meadows!
Museum – but exciting!
Many Torgau museums and exhibitions also have offers for us children and are only a stone’s throw away from each other.
In the Spalatinhaus, in one of the oldest buildings in Torgau, a media children’s path illuminates the interplay of music and Reformation.
The interactive exhibition “Standfest. Bible Festival. Drinking Feast.”
In the experience exhibition Roots and Wings there is huge furniture in different rooms of an apartment. Not only can we climb them, but we also learn something about the important questions in life.
Time to romp – first in the dry, then in the wet
We stroll along the old city wall. Suddenly he appears: the planetary playground under the linden trees is so cool! There is a separate area for the very young children. We swing and climb and laugh and romp…
Papa has promised our Mama a massage for the late afternoon. She can really relax in the Aquavita sports and leisure pool. We children switch back and forth between the sauna and the swimming pool. Outside there is also a pool and a playground!
What a day!
